Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island
In Brief: To provide weekend food to public school children in need. The mission of Backpack Buddies Seabrook Island (BPBSI) is to provide a bag of nutritious food to children for weekends and school holidays. The children receiving the food are identified as being in need by school and county officials. These children typically qualify for free breakfast and lunch during the school day but are food insecure on weekends and school holidays. BPBSI provides food to fill this need. The children are selected by school and county officials who manage the delivery of food to the children. BPBSI has no direct interaction with the children. BPBSI is an all volunteer organization. It has no employees nor pays compensation nor benefits. BPBSI raises funds and then the all volunteer network purchases, packs individual bags and delivers the bags to the schools for distribution. The number of children receiving food averages 350 each week during the school year.
