Grants to South Carolina and Georgia elementary and middle school educators in eligible counties for creative math and science projects. Funding is intended to enable educators to purchase supplies, equipment, and resources to improve student performance in STEM subjects. Eligible educators are located in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, and Edgefield Counties in South Carolina; and Columbia and Richmond Counties in Georgia.

SRNS is committed to assisting the local education community by rewarding innovative teaching methods with funds to enhance classroom experience in STEM. CSRA elementary/middle school educators are invited to submit a proposal for one of the three categories:

  1. Category A - Classroom teachers only: Grant proposals for the purchase of basic supplies and materials for use in a single classroom in conjunction with student-centered activities.
  2. Category B* - Grant proposal for equipment to enhance hands-on science, mathematics, or technology programs, which will be used in a single classroom or grade level.
  3. Category C* - Grant proposal for equipment to implement a science, mathematics, or technology project which will be used by more than one grade or the entire school.

* Applications for Category B and C require a project plan and implementation schedule.

To increase your chances for funding, please keep in mind these characteristics when developing your mini grant application:

Good Mini Grant projects:

  • Show usefulness over long periods of time
  • Can be easily set up and handle frequent use
  • Benefit large numbers of students
  • Capture students’ interest
  • Provide unique and/or higher concept learning
  • Address curriculum standards
  • Are appropriate for the grade level

In addition, information on the application should:

  • Be neatly organized
  • Contain reference information (e.g. vendor information, etc.)
  • Itemized total budget must not have a shortfall of more than 10% of the total amount requested.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Category A: $500
- Category B: $750
- Category C: $1,000

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Public and private elementary and middle school educators who teach/work in one of the CSRA counties may apply.

Guidance counselors may apply for mini grants as long as it’s demonstrated that the project will benefit elementary and middle school students in the classroom.

Applicants do not have to be science, math, or technology teachers to be eligible for a mini grant. The grant writer must demonstrate that the project will enhance those concepts in the classroom.

Pre-Application Information:

Documents must be received by close of business March 5, 2021.

Note: Decisions on grants are made by the SRNS Mini Grants Judge Committee. You and your principal will receive a report with the final results during the first week of April.

If SRNS does not encounter unforeseen situations, all recipients (including team members, principals, and superintendents) will be invited to an awards reception scheduled in May. Reception invitations will be sent via e-mail with an electronic RSVP for your convenience.

Online submission is preferred, but grants may still arrive by mail.

Educators may only be associated with one (1) grant in any role, either as lead teacher or team member. Educators may apply as a single applicant or a team, no more than three members.

Proposals that received funding may not be re-submitted unless the project is of a refurbishment nature.
