Grants of up to $8,000, $10,000, and $20,000 to South Carolina nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and faith-based entities in eligible counties for programs that benefit local residents. Funding is intended for projects and activities that improve the quality of life for people residing in the Southern Lowcountry counties of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper. Applications are accepted in three categories, a structure intended to suit the needs of small, large, and first-time applicants.
Grant Categories:
Genesis Grant: This grant supports strategic growth and/or expansion to increase the impact of a program that has already been proven successful. This grant may also support a project that addresses a community need in a new or creative way.
Operational Grant: This grant is only available to organizations that have applied to The Beaufort Fund previously.
First-Time Grant: This grant is only available to nonprofits that have not applied to the Beaufort Fund previously or have not received funding in the last five years.
As a general rule, applications are open to groups registered as 501(c)(3) organizations, organizations working under a fiscal sponsor, houses of worship, or governmental entities.
Eligibility:
- Genesis Grant: Nonprofits applying for the Genesis Grant may have an annual budget of $300,000 or less and be a 501(c)(3) public charity or have a fiscal sponsorship.
- Operational Grant: Nonprofits applying for the Operational Grant may have an annual budget of $300,000 or more and must have had 501(c)(3) public charity status for a minimum of five years.
- First-Time Grant: Nonprofits applying for the First-Time Grant may have an annual budget of $300,000 or more and must have 501(c)(3) status.
Pre-Application Information
Deadline: 11:59 p.m. June 1
A committee comprised of community members will consider applications and make recommendations. Select groups may receive a site visit and/or follow-up questions, with final decisions announced in late October.
- Genesis Grant: Applicants may request up to $8,000 of support from this category.
- Operational Grant: Nonprofits may request up to $20,000 of support from this category.
- First-Time Grant: Nonprofits may request up to $10,000 of support from this category.
