Grant Description
Grants of up to $50,000 to South Carolina nonprofit organizations in eligible regions for creative programs that benefit local residents. Applicants must attend an information session and contact program staff prior to submitting an application. Funding is intended to support projects that address an identifiable community need or enhance the quality of life in Greenwood County.

The Innovation Grant supports creative ideas that foster strategic change within the Greenwood County community. This Grant generates collective excitement due to its originality and courageous approach to addressing root causes of systemic problems or deficiencies, or by contributing to a healthy, thriving community. Successful proposals will stretch the imagination and enrich lives. Collaboration and partnerships among organizations are expected and essential to assure lasting impact and success.

Programs should:

  • Creatively address an identifiable community need or aspect of quality of life
  • Meaningfully engage stakeholders and, whenever possible, include those directly affected by the problem
  • Reflect effective collaboration with other community organizations
  • Use existing resources and maximize current community assets
  • Have the potential to generate broad community support and to become self-sustaining over time
  • Include evaluation mechanism/metrics.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Grants are awarded to organizations with 501(c)(3) or other tax-exempt status.

Grants are for organizations whose proposed programs or projects provide direct benefit to residents of Greenwood County.

Ineligible
GCCF does not offer loans or grants to individuals.

Grants are made not for endowment, sponsorships, or fundraising events.

Duplication of existing services is to be avoided.

Expenses charged against this grant may not be incurred prior to the start date of the grant.

Funding provided by the Foundation may not be used to participate or intervene in political campaigns or to support an attempt to influence legislation except to the extent that such activities are permissible under IRS rules for 501(c)(3) charitable organizations.

Pre-Proposal Conference
Prospective applicants must attend one of the mandatory information meetings about this grant process.

Orientation meetings for 2023 will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 11:00 am-noon, and Thursday, March 16, 4:00-5:00 pm.

Pre-Application Information
The Innovation Grant cycle will be offered in 2023. Applications will be received April 1 – April 30, 2023 and reviewed during May and June, with notifications given and awarded funds made available by July 31.

Prospective applicants must contact Foundation staff for further details before submitting an application for the GCCF Innovation Grant and attend one of the mandatory orientation meetings about this grant process.

No more than one grant may be received by an organization within each calendar year.

Estimated Size of Grant
Proposals will be considered for awards up to $50,000 total.
